Backlit mirrors are a functional yet stylish addition to any home. Backlit mirrors are mirrors with integrated LED lighting behind the glass. The light shines out from the front or around the edge of the mirror giving a soft halo-like glow.
Backlit mirrors not only produce subtle and, in some cases, adjustable light, but some also have demisters. The thin heating pad that’s placed on the back of the mirror gently warms the mirror to prevent it from fogging up.
While backlit mirrors are generally placed in bathrooms, they can also be placed in any area of the home – creating a striking feature. Backlit mirrors can add warmth to a room or enhance natural light when placed opposite a window. There are many ways a backlit mirror can be used to add style and create ambiance in the home.
While backlit mirrors are a great addition to the home there are advantages and disadvantages to using them.

Advantages
- Improved lighting quality – light is thrown outward creating a soft glow and reducing harsh shadows
- The soft light improves ambience
- They are energy efficient
- Reduced glare – the light is diffused behind the mirror so its softer on the eyes
Disadvantages
- They are more expensive to purchase than traditional mirrors
- They need to be installed by a professional
- Maintenance and replacement costs are higher than traditional mirrors
- There may be limitations to where the mirror can be placed due to wiring requirements
Backlit mirrors combine functionality and design to create a practical yet stylish feature to the home.
