John and Donna Harding-Smith, owners of Lateral Building Design, commenced the business in July 2002 having purchased an existing business (operating under a different name) in which John was employed for over 20 years.

John is a Registered Building Practitioner and has over 30 years experience in building design and architectural drafting. Donna holds a Bachelor of Business (majoring in accounting and law) and manages the administrative and financial functions of the business with similar experience in these areas.

All building design staff at Lateral Building Design are appropriately qualified, having completed three years of study in building design, architectural drafting and building construction. Three staff are also accredited (qualified) to complete energy rating reports and one staff member has recently completed a landscape course which entails both design and plant identification. We regularly attend professional development programs to keep abreast of new trends, technologies and regulations

In addition to registration with the Building Practitioners Board, Lateral Building Design is also a member of the Building Designers Association of Victoria. We have acquired an excellent rapport with many Council’s and have a thorough understanding of local policy, building and planning regulations.

We have also established strong relationships with external consultants including:

• Arborists
