COMMUNITY SERVICE
We believe it is important for all companies to be active in their community and/or to lend their support where they can to charities or worthy causes. To this end, the following is a snapshot of our efforts which we hope makes a difference over time if not immediately.
GUIDE DOGS VICTORIA
Lateral Building Design and the business owners actively support Guide Dogs Victoria in Kew.
To date, we have puppy raised (fostered) three Guide Dog Puppies “Georgia”, “Dessa” and “Faye”. Two of these dogs have been successful and have been placed in Japan.
We are taking a break from “fulltime” puppy raising however we occasionally look after more mature dogs in the puppy raising program on a short term basis having had “Fia” “Vicky”, Tashi and Heath.
Puppy raising requires the dogs to become part of our family life. We receive the puppy when they are about 7-8 weeks old and they remain with us until they are 12-14 months of age. All of the puppies in our care have been or are regular visitors to our office.
In August 2007 we became Exclusive Puppy Sponsors for Guide Dog Puppy “Vicky”. Unfortunately Vicky was unsuccessful in her quest to become a guide dog and she is now a full time pet for one lucky family. We are currently sponsoring “Carlyn” who will be ready for assessment later in the year.

MENTORING PROGRAM
We also participate in the Building Designers Association of Victoria (BDAV) and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) ‘Mentoring Program’ in which we provide support to a Building Design student for approximately 8 weeks each year.
This requires the student to visit our office each week for at least one hour during which they view projects in various stages of completion together with the documentation for the developments. It’s also an opportunity for the student to ask any questions they may have with respect to building design and documentation (plans and reports) as well as to ask questions about business ownership and the responsibilities.
REPRESENTATIVE BASKETBALL - KNOX RAIDERS

The following information has been provided by Greg Oakford, Marketing & Communications Manager Knox Basketball Inc.
Knox Basketball are a not-for-profit sporting association whose six-court purpose built Basketball Stadium is located in Boronia. Knox Basketball is the largest municipality-based basketball operation in Victoria and is comprised of many different sections including the representative arm of the association called the Knox Raiders.
The Knox Senior Raiders have four teams that complete in the SEABL (South East Australian Basketball League); two teams compete in the Championship Division and other two compete in the Development League which is targeted at youth and the future stars of tomorrow.
One of the Raiders Development League Men’s players, Ben Smyth has been personally sponsored by Lateral Building Design in season 2009. With this type of support from Lateral Building Design, the Raiders are able to have their team registered each year, top of the line coaching plus equipment and tools to further improve their skills.
